Red Gram / Toor Dal : ½ cup
Tomato : 1
Onion : 1
Tamarind : Gooseberry Sized ball
Green Chillies : 3 to 5
Whole Red Chillies : 1 or 2
Red Chill Powder : ½ tsp
Turmeric Powder : ¼ tsp
Red Chilli Powder : ½ tsp
Salt to taste
A pinch of hing
Curry Leaves : 2 stems
Oil : 1 tsp
Mustard Seeds : ½ tsp
Chana Dal : ½ tsp
Urad Dal : ½ tsp
Garlic Cloves : 2
Method :
powder. Mix well and cook on a low flame for 2 minutes. Heat oil in a pan for seasoning and add the mustard seeds, Put the red gram, chopped bottle gourd, turmeric, chopped onion, chopped tomato, green chillies and one cup of water in a pressure cooker and cook till 3 whistles. Switch off the heat and wait until the pressure go off. Remove the dal mixture from the cooker and add the salt and red chilli powder. Heat oil in a pan and add the mustard seeds, chana dal, urad dal and garlic cloves and let them splutter. Then add the hing, curry leaves and red chillies and fry for few seconds. Turn off the flame and pour over the dal mixture. Serve with steamed rice and dollop of ghee.
