Ingredients :Chopped Ridge Gourd : 1 cup
Toor Dal : ½ cup

Tomato : 1
Onion : 1
Tamarind : Gooseberry size ball
Mustard Seeds : ½ tsp
Chana Dal : ½ tsp
Curry Leaves : 2 sprigs
Garlic Cloves : 2 or 3
Green Chillies : 3
Dried Red Chilli : 1
Red Chilli Powder : ½ tsp (Optional)
A big pinch of turmeric
A pinch of hing
A pinch of hing
Salt to taste
Method :
Wash, peel and chop the ridge gourd into medium size pieces. Put the toor dal, chopped ridge gourd, chopped tomato, chopped onion, tamarind, green chillies and a cup of water in a pressure cooker and cook till 3 whistles. Turn off the flame and wait until the pressure go off. Heat a teaspoon of oil in a vessel. Add the mustard seeds, chana dal, urad dal and let them splutter. Add the garlic cloves, red chilli, hing and curry leaves to it and fry for a few seconds. Now add the dal mixture, salt, red chilli powder and turmeric to it and cook for another 2 minutes. Switch off the flame and serve hot with roti or steamed rice, dollop of ghee and some papads.
