Tomato Rice Recipe – An easy and super quick South Indian Tomato Rice with Video & step by step photos.
This South Indian Tomato Rice / Thakkali Sadam is one of the easy rice recipes that can be made in no time for your lunch box or dinner. You just need few ingredients to make this quick rice dish.

Easy Tomato Rice Recipe - South Indian Style Tomato Rice Recipe
Ingredients
- 2.5 cup Cooked Rice (I used Basmati Rice)
- 2 ¼ cups Chopped Tomatoes (4 medium sized)
- 2 Small Onions
- 10 Cashews
- 1 Green Chilli
- ½ tsp Cumin Seeds
- ¼ tsp Turmeric Powder
- 2 Cloves
- 2-3 tbsp Oil
- Small Piece Cinnamon Stick
- Salt to taste
- Few Curry Leaves
- A pinch of Hing
Instructions
- Heat oil in pan and add cumin seeds, cloves, cinnamon and chopped or crushed garlic. Saute for a few seconds and add the slit green chilli. Fry until slightly browned.
- Add cashew nuts and saute until they are golden brown.
- Now add curry leaves and hing and saute for a few seconds.
- Add the chopped onions and fry until they are transparent.
- Then add the chopped tomatoes, salt and turmeric powder and saute until thick, mushy and all the water evaporates.
- When it is done, turn off the flame. Add the cooked rice to the tomato mixture and mix well until everything is combined.
- Serve with yogurt or raita and papad.
